Rolls-Royce has announced the release of new gensets from MTU Onsite Energy with a energy output range of 80-200 kWe.
The new 4R0120 and 6R0120 gensets, containing Mercedes-Benz OM924LA and OM926LA diesel motors, represent the first time on-highway machines have been adapted for strength generation applications, Rolls-Royce stated.
According to the company, the gensets' additional features include EPA Rate 3 electronic fuel techniques; new rear or side-facing control panels; and a brand new weatherproof base and housing.
The 80-200 kWe supplements are the result of a three-year cooperation between MTU Onsite Power and Daimler AG. Using an on-highway engine mainly used in Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner medium-duty trucks and busses, the engineering team in MTU Onsite Energy transformed the engine for use within an off-highway power generation software for the first time.
Following the on- in order to off-highway diesel engine transformation, Rolls-Royce said the complete gensets were subjected to runtime stamina tests. For nearly three months, the actual gensets operated 24/7 whilst enduring wide load varies and weather conditions. Each genset was run on an automated masse bank that incorporated intense load steps, including a 0-100% load demand step each and every hour throughout the 2000-hour runtime period. The gensets were tested in temperatures which range from -35°C to 24°C.
