GE’s New Energy Business Changes the Power Game

GENERAL ELECTRIC announced recently the development of Current, a new venture that combines energy equipment with a digital backbone to create power simpler and more effective for customers.

The company, which is backed with GE’s balance sheet, brings together GE’s LED, Solar, Energy Storage space and Electric Vehicle companies as a one-stop shop for earlier customers like Walgreens, JPMorgan Chase, Hilton Worldwide as well as others.

Based in the Boston region, Current reflects GE’s change toward new business models which address customers’ end objectives. Instead of selling separate power products, Current will mix power offerings as a support and reduce cost for businesses by simplifying energy as well as providing improved efficiency. It is going to use GE’s Predix software program platform to collect data that help customers understand how they’re utilizing, and losing, energy.

From the socket towards the grid, we understand how the actual electrons flow and have the distinctive position to optimize vitality regardless of the scenario or client. ”
