The actual VTT Technical Research Center of Finland Ltd (VTT) is leading a project to build up a new fuel cell technologies that could be ideal for use upon vessels using liquid gas (LNG) bunkers, Offshore Delivery reports.
The solid o2 fuel cell (SOFC) is actually reported to be under advancement as part of the European Union (EU) financed INNO-SOFC project, a collaborative effort between the VTT, Convion Ltd, and Elcogen Limited.
The project's intention is probably to develop a "new-generation as well as long-life fuel cell system" that provides higher levels of power efficiency than existing energy cell technology.
VTT describes that the project "will create a 50 kW fuel cellular system that will have an effectiveness of 60 percent with regard to electricity production and a complete efficiency of 85 %. "
"Thus far, the actual adoption of such techniques into widespread use continues to be hindered by their brief service life and high price, inch said VTT.
"The focus on is set to double the particular service life and halve the price of fuel cell systems. inches
In noting the advantages of gas cell technology, VTT declared, "compared with competing devices, for example generators powered with a combustion engine, fuel mobile systems exhibit a high performance level, low emissions, almost zero noise and low vibration amounts. "
