Turbines of the year: Offshore turbines

This year Siemens commissioned a direct-drive 6MW turbine prototype having a rotor diameter of a hundred and twenty metres. A second prototype implemented a year later, featuring a record 154-metre rotor. And in 2015, the prototype upgraded to 7MW was installed, generating regarding 10% more energy compared to 6MW model at top IEC class I blowing wind speeds.

Relatively minor specialized modifications include the fitting associated with stronger permanent magnets, optimized generator segments, and improved converter and transformer models.

The cylinder-shaped nacelle features a helicopter-hoisting platform integrated in its rear. Inside the nacelle, an enormous cast main carrier types the central structural component, while at the front there is a amazingly easy internal service centre access via the hollowed out generator shaft and solitary rotor bearing.

Two person power-electronic converters are located within the nacelle, together with a medium-voltage transport. The rear section of the actual nacelle is also spacious as well as service-friendly. Despite the incorporation regarding converters and transformer within the nacelle, it has a favourable mind mass of 360 loads.

Both the 6MW and 7MW models are fitted with in one facility developed 75-metre blades. Large-scale manufacturing facilities for the nacelles and hubs are being built-in Cuxhaven, Germany, and for the particular B75 blades in Hull, UK.
