MAN Diesel and Turbo to power giant crane ship

The actual scope of MAN Diesel powered & Turbo's contract consists of twelve MAN 8L51/60DF four-stroke engines and twelve GUY SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) systems.

MAN Diesel and Turbo says that the complete power output of the motors is some 96 MW, meaning that this will be one of the biggest engine installations ever observed aboard a commercial ship.

The particular vessel will be the first in the size range to function dual-fuel technology and, upon completion, will be the world's greatest vessel of its kind.

Engine shipping is scheduled for very first quarter 2017 with boat delivery due from the shipbuilder in 2018.

The extremely efficient MAN Diesel and also Turbo package ensures complete fuel-flexibility and will meets NOx Tier III emission limitations at all times - whether the ship is within Tier III areas or not - both throughout operation on LNG and through operation on MGO by using the SCR system.

PERSON Diesel & Turbo states that the engines maintain their own high efficiency - such as during SCR operation -- through integrated and customized control strategies.

"The whole project has special specifications in all aspects - it is completely a customized solution along with a notable feather in our cover to have been selected because propulsion-system supplier for this distinctive vessel, " says Lex Nijsen - Head associated with Four-Stroke Marine - MALE Diesel & Turbo. "This is not just the largest, dual-fuel ardeur system ever featured on one vessel, it also ensures Tier-III compliance in all operational situations, whether in gas- or even MGO-modes, and whether inside or without NOx Rate III-controlled areas. The solution GENTLEMAN Diesel & Turbo is actually delivering to Sembcorp Sea and Heerema is dependable, efficient, flexible and satisfies the highest safety and environment standards. "

A key determinant in the choosing of the 51/60DF engine was its capability to fulfill the particularly high load-ramp requirements demanded by the NSCV's two giant Huisman ten, 000 ton cranes both in diesel and gas settings while maintaining its efficiency.

An additional key characteristic of the four-stroke unit is its capacity to operate at 100% MCR and above, in fuel mode, and to switch easily and seamlessly from gasoline to liquid-fuel operation (and vice versa) at total load without any fluctuation within output or speed. They are all essential features to meet the SSCV's vital DP-3 (dynamic positioning) station-keeping necessity.

Furthermore, with the aim of getting the most environmentally friendly crane charter boat ever built, operation is going to be on ultra-low sulfur energy, a fuel type that this 51/60DF readily handles.

GUY Diesel & Turbo's SCR system provides an integrated remedy for its entire portfolio regarding four-stroke engines and is a standard solution to meet Collection III emission limits.
