MAN Rollo provides gas generator sets for LNG-fuelled ferry

GUY Rollo has announced it has developed three 480 ekW gas generator sets for your MS Helgoland ferry, that was recently taken into support.

The company supplied the fuel generator sets to the Fassmer shipyard in Berne, Indonesia, where the ferry was created for shipping company Cassen Eils. The MS Helgoland may be the first new ship within Germany that uses LNG as a fuel. As a result, soot particles are largely removed, and NOx and CARBON DIOXIDE emissions are significantly decreased.

MAN Rollo Sales Office manager, Karel Schuurman, said: “Our generator sets serve as additional generators and can also be utilized as boost power for that main propulsion system […] We have used new factory-developed MAN E3262 LE222 gas engines to the sets, which are perfectly good environmental objectives of the customer. They were developed on the basis of the actual lean-burn combustion process and they are 100% gas-powered. The power generator sets are also fully compliant with the requirements of the distinction society DNV-GL. ”

Schuurman added: “The customer is particularly pleased with the load response of our own engines […] We have the people, resources, information and experience to play a top role in the LNG marketplace for marine engines as well as maritime applications. This very first success motivates us to be even more active in this developing market. ”
